  31.0 x 23.0cms, 112pp, 85 b/w illusts of 51 young Japanese men, very good+ hardback The text tells us that most of these muscular (often tough and rough looking) men are about 20 years old, but the photographer claims that 'I never find in their nudity the slightest trace of vulgarity or coarseness'. Yukio Mishima encouraged him to publish this book and posed for the shots on pages 9 and 78-79. The book is dedicated to his memory.

  Hardcover. First Edition. Otoko features 85 visually striking, black-and-white photos of young Japanese men in a wide array of poses and stages of undress. Yato explains that his inspiration for the subject matter is rooted in spirituality rather than sexuality. As Yato writes in the Foreword, "True, nudity in either man or woman has similar tones of sexuality a fact that any successful nude photographer must take into account but, at least in the Japanese, the sexual attractiveness of the male is more of spirit than of body." This stunning collection captures the true essence of the spirituality that Yato seeks to convey. 4to, bound in glossy white boards with silver lettering on front board and spine. In original dust jacket preserved in a clear sleeve. Book has half inch closed tears at head of spine. Bumping at tail of spine and all four corners of boards. Large ink stamp on front pastedown reading "Purchased at USPS Auction". Hinge starting at page 40. White pages of text block show some faint yellowing at outer edges. Dust jacket has some chipping and loss at corners and head and tail of spine. One inch closed tear at head of spine. Some soiling on front panel and minor edgewear. Overall, a Good copy in a Very Good dust jacket. .

It contains male models in various states of undress. The boards are covered in gloss white and have silver lettering on the front board and spine. The dust jacket has some curing edge wear, primarily along the top edge, and a longitudinal mark the length of the back panel-it is slightly torn a the top edge, there are also other light surface marks to the back panel. The dust jacket is currently protected by a clear removable cover. Internally, the pages have some light yellowing to the outer margins.
